Why Dome?

by Chris Brown

Christchurch, New Zealand in the year 2000 I was fortunate enough to visit several multiple dome homes built all through the 1980’s. I became fascinated with the feeling inside the dome homes I visited. There was something special about the energy, normal furniture worked and pictures hung on the walls but the thing that got me the most was a profoundly nurturing feeling. As a builder and designer, I recognized the inherent qualities and efficiencies that gave the dome shape a head start compared to every other structural shape. I have always been fascinated with curved geometry and structures.

And thus I embarked on a journey to develop the ultimate dome building system that will withstand the extreme forces of nature that I foresaw coming. It’s apparent to me that many of the types of homes we live in and that we are still building will not be adequate for the extremes that are already showing up around the world.

Housing is in a crisis and basic human needs and survival is already the biggest issue facing millions of people every day. I believe this shouldn’t be happening. Human beings need to look after each other and I saw the potential for dome housing to be a solution for millions of people all over the world. I saw a vision of communities and villages comprising of compact dome housing. So my solution had to be a system that was elegant, well designed, functional and highly adaptable in every environment. It had to be prefabricated, modular, lightweight and fast to construct.

It had to be a building system that would have immediate practical applications in every part of the world, from a backyard studio to emergency disaster relief and everything in between. As well as its ability to handle extreme forces the product needed to outperform anything else for comfort, longevity, and low maintenance without costing more.

The DreamDome Solution is Born

Through trial and error over the past 15 years of design and building different kinds of domes and using different construction methods, I eventually reached my goal of the DreamDome.

DreamDome is made from lightweight insulated panels that are designed for cyclones and earthquakes. The composite materials used in a DreamDome don’t rot or rust and are impermeable to flood and insect damage. Our design innovation allows all sizes DreamDomes to connect to each other to form extended multiple Dome homes – it is like plug and play housing. And it is relocatable.

DreamDome is a modular building system that combines the most sacred geometry with the most advanced materials to create houses that will last the 21st century and beyond. The system is designed to be modular and all dome sizes can connect to any other dome size

I feel driven and am excited to be part of creating solutions to help people survive through climate change with the best affordable housing systems. I am passionate about utilizing technology and co-creating new ways for human beings to thrive and survive through to the 21st century and beyond.

We are ready to start the manufacturing process with the launch of the DreamDome 3.5m and we are preparing to launch an equity crowdfunding soon. Stay tuned and get subscribed to one of the first to hear.
